Call for Papers: Exploring the Intersection of Philosophy, Technology, and Design

2026-03-02

Big.D invites original research articles, interdisciplinary studies, and philosophical explorations for its upcoming issue, with a particular focus on integrating ethical and philosophical frameworks into innovative design practices. We are especially interested in research that examines the intersection of design, technology, and ethics, offering both technical and conceptual insights that drive positive change in the field.

Aligned with the journal’s aims and scope, this issue seeks contributions that reflect on how philosophical principles, from classical frameworks to contemporary ethical considerations, can inform and enhance the design of products, systems, and technologies. We encourage submissions that bridge the gap between philosophical theory and real-world applications, fostering a deeper understanding of the ethical implications of technological advancements.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Integrating Daoist and Eastern philosophical principles into modern design, focusing on sustainable practices and energy systems;

  • Ethical self-location in AI and autonomous systems, including value alignment and moral agency in technological decision-making;

  • The role of AI in fostering ethical design practices, with a focus on fairness, transparency, and accountability in design systems;

  • The application of complexity theory and virtue ethics in shaping corporate innovation ecosystems and fostering complex thinking in organizational settings;

  • Ethical dilemmas in AI-generated educational content and the influence of cross-cultural pedagogical philosophies in educational design;

  • Philosophical approaches to computational aesthetics and the design of creative systems grounded in both technical and cultural contexts;

  • The role of AI in addressing sustainability challenges through engineering analysis, life-cycle frameworks, and the integration of ecological principles into design processes.

Big.D welcomes original research articles, review papers, and interdisciplinary studies that demonstrate clear methodological rigor, relevance to design and engineering practice, and contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We encourage submissions that provide a critical philosophical lens to design processes, offering new insights into the ethical and social responsibilities of designers in the digital age.
