Editorial: Bio-Inspired Smart Materials, Interfaces, and Sensing Systems
Abstract
This issue of Big.D explores how biological principles inspire smart materials, adaptive surfaces, sensing technologies, wearable interfaces, and biomedical systems. Contributions examine bio-inspired adhesion, thermochromic coatings, superhydrophobic surfaces, wind-turbine structures, self-powered textiles, flexible sensors, wound-monitoring systems, physiological interfaces, gut-on-a-chip platforms, and neural dynamics. Together, these studies demonstrate how biological structures can be translated into functional engineering solutions through advanced materials, fabrication, sensing, computation, modeling, and validation, reinforcing Big.D’s interdisciplinary approach to design-enabled engineering.
