AI-Enabled Digital Health and Human-Centered Intelligent Systems
Abstract
This issue of Big.D presents ten interdisciplinary studies demonstrating how intelligent technologies are transforming human health and well-being. The contributions span AI-enabled monitoring and treatment, wearable sensing, rehabilitation, medical device design, biomechanical assessment, and population-level health analytics. They address mental health, stroke recovery, injury prevention, childhood malnutrition, chronic disease management, cognitive decline, and obesity through machine learning, deep learning, spatial analysis, and graph neural networks. The issue also examines users’ perceptions of barriers in traditional and digital educational settings, emphasizing that technological success depends on human needs and lived experiences. Collectively, these studies embody Big.D’s commitment to responsible, human-centered innovation, showing how engineering design can translate computational and scientific advances into validated methods, devices, and systems that improve health outcomes across diverse populations and settings while advancing intelligent and sustainable solutions.
